The Centre County Child Care & Education Safety Net Program for Children and Youth

About the Program
The Centre County Child Care & Education Safety Net Program for Children and Youth assists families in obtaining quality child care services for their children while they are at work, job training,/educating, in a rehabilitation program, have an emergency or respite need.

The Centre County Child Care & Education Safety Net Program for Children and Youth program is made possible by funds from The United Way of Centre County, Centre County Community Foundation and by private donations.

 Who may apply?
  • Families with children from 6 weeks through their twelfth year
  • Adult member(s) of a family who are working or searching for work, educating/job training or in a rehabilitation program
  • Annual family income typically needs to be under the 300th percentile of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (however, special circumstances may be considered)

  • Teenage parents who need child care services for their own children while they are in school/GED programs or at work
  • Families who have an emergency or respite need for child care service



How is eligibility determined?
Family income is determined through the submission of financial documents.  Applicants will need to submit proof of all sources of income for your family including wages, social security, child support, etc. ( All information submitted is confidential and will not be released to anyone without your consent.)

Who may I use as a provider?
Families who qualify for funding can choose among CDFC operated Child Care & Education Programs located throughout Centre County.

How do I apply?
Contact the CDFC office at 814-238-5480 to request an application.

How much financial assistance will I receive?

  • A weekly co-payment is assessed to all families participating in the program; it is based on income and family size.
  • Child care safety net dollars help to cover the remaining cost of child care services.



When can I start receiving subsidy?
Eligibility notification is made by phone contact after all requested documentation is submitted and if subsidy funds are available.

Is there a waiting list?
If necessary, a waiting list will be maintained.  You will be placed on the waiting list according to the date and time your application is received. 

Sometimes enrollment is considered on a “needs” basis and the length of time care is needed
